CBD Oils Q & A

What is CBD?

CBD is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis family of plants, which includes marijuana and hemp. CBD oil often comes from the hemp plant. Passage of the Hemp Act in December 2018 removed hemp from the controlled substances list, which has led to the widespread availability of hemp and CBD oils.

It is now legal to sell CBD oils as dietary supplements, like other nutritional and herbal supplements. However, to ensure composition, potency, and safety, CBD oils should undergo third-party testing. It’s also important to check CBD oil for mold, bacteria, pesticides, heavy metals, and solvents.

Dr. Gedde recommends, when choosing a CBD oil, you carefully check the label and the company website to see if they provide third-party testing reports for each batch. If you’re uncertain, Dr. Gedde is available for consultations on CBD oils and can recommend a brand that will suit you.

How do CBD oils work?

CBD oils work on the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in your body. The primary function of the ECS is to maintain homeostasis in your body in response to changes in your environment. Your ECS plays a vital role in regulating many functions, including sleep, mood, memory, pain, appetite, and immune health.

CBD oils act on the ECS and on other receptor systems to help rebalance your body systems without causing psychological effects. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is also a cannabinoid but is only found in the marijuana plant and in addition to helping rebalance your ECS, also has psychoactive effects.

CBD oil can be used without THC. However, CBD and THC often work best when used together. In fact, CBD may reduce or eliminate the psychoactive effects of THC, depending on the ratio between the two cannabinoids.

Am I a good candidate for CBD oils?

Dr. Gedde is a CBD expert and has many years of experience using the oil and helping her patients at Gedde Whole Health LLC get relief from their health conditions. She can determine if you or your child would benefit from CBD oil during a consultation.
